HMG
FSH plus LH activity for fertility protocols
R 390
75iu vial
Drives spermatogenesis with HCGIn men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, 75–150 IU two to three times weekly added to HCG recruits FSH-driven sperm production.
Modestly higher pregnancy rate than rFSHAl-Inany 2003 meta-analysis in long-GnRH-agonist IVF cycles showed clinical pregnancy RR ~1.22 (95% CI 1.03–1.44) versus recombinant FSH.
Effective in ovulation inductionGeneric HMG matches FSH on pregnancy outcomes in routine ovulation induction at lower cost.
Combines with HCG for full HPG restartStandard second step once intratesticular testosterone has been restored by HCG alone.
HMG is a urinary preparation of FSH and LH activity (roughly 75 IU of each per ampoule), historically purified from postmenopausal urine. Strictly it is a gonadotropin biologic rather than a synthetic peptide, but it shows up alongside HCG in fertility and hormone-restoration protocols. It drives both follicular development in women and Sertoli-cell-mediated spermatogenesis in men.
