PT-141, generic name bremelanotide, is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide derived from α-MSH. It is a non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist with primary activity at MC4R in the hypothalamus and limbic system, acting on the central neural circuits of sexual desire rather than on peripheral blood flow. The FDA approved it in 2019 as Vyleesi for acquired, generalised hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women — making PT-141 an outlier on this list with a fully approved indication.
