Tuftsin analogue for anxiety without sedation
R 585
30mg vial
Anxiolytic comparable to medazepamZozulia 2008 in 62 patients with GAD or neurasthenia: intranasal Selank matched oral medazepam on anxiety reduction.
Antiasthenic and mildly stimulatingUnlike benzodiazepines, produced antiasthenic and mild psychostimulant effects rather than sedation.
GABAergic without benzo toleranceCompetes for >50% of [3H]diazepam binding sites on rat brain membranes — supports GABAergic action without classic benzodiazepine tolerance or withdrawal.
Normalises enkephalin half-lifeCorrelated with normalised leu-enkephalin half-life in clinical work.
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow as a stabilised analogue of the immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin. It is registered as an anxiolytic in Russia. Proposed mechanisms include allosteric modulation of GABA-A receptors and modulation of brain enkephalin levels.
