Stroke-recovery signalRussian clinical work in ischaemic stroke reports faster Barthel-index recovery and elevated plasma BDNF on intranasal 6,000 µg/day across two 10-day courses.
Attention and short-term memoryHealthy-volunteer studies report improvements in attention and short-term memory after intranasal dosing.
Intranasal deliveryConvenient nasal-spray administration avoids injection.
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro), an analogue of ACTH(4-10) developed in the 1980s at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow. It is on the Russian Federation's List of Vital and Essential Drugs and is prescribed there for stroke recovery and cognitive complaints. Outside Russia it remains unapproved and largely unstudied in Western trials.
